4 Paris Saint-Germain players face potential suspension for alleged homophobic chants

Reports suggest that four Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) players could be facing suspension after allegedly participating in homophobic chants following their victory against Marseille.

The players in question, Ousmane Dembele, Randal Kolo Muani, Achraf Hakimi, and Layvin Kurzawa, have been summoned to appear before Ligue 1’s disciplinary authorities on October 5. If found guilty, they may face suspension from the league. The inappropriate behavior allegedly occurred when the players celebrated their win in front of the Virage Auteuil stand, known for housing the club’s ultras.

Sebastien Deneux, the president of the disciplinary body, commented, “The commission was alerted by officials, specifically the delegates, who reported songs of a homophobic nature and comments from certain players that can be described as insulting. Based on this, we have decided to summon the four players and the club for a hearing on October 5.”

PSG has also released a statement condemning all forms of discrimination, emphasizing that such behavior has no place in stadiums or society. The club has a longstanding partnership with organizations dedicated to combating discrimination, such as SOS Homophobie, Sportitude, SOS Racisme, and Licra.

The French government, represented by Minister for Sport Amelie Oudea-Castera, has expressed its concern over the discriminatory chanting during the match. Minister Oudea-Castera has taken a strong stance against such behavior and has instructed her department to file a complaint to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice, with the aim of banning them from stadiums.

The incident has drawn widespread attention, and it remains to be seen how PSG and the relevant authorities will respond to calls for action against homophobic chants in football stadiums.
