Man City’s League Cup exit without Haaland

In a highly anticipated third-round match of the English League Cup, Manchester City left St James’ Park empty-handed after suffering a defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.

The spotlight of the match was on Alexander Isak, who shined by netting a close-range finish in the 53rd minute, causing sorrow for the usually mighty Manchester City.

The absence of key players like Rodri (due to suspension), Erling Haaland, and Bernardo Silva left the Citizens unable to dominate their opponents as they typically do.

This loss marked the early exit of Coach Pep Guardiola’s team from the League Cup, a surprising turn of events considering their previous dominance.

Notably, this defeat also marked Manchester City’s first loss of the 2023-24 season across all competitions. Prior to this setback, they had secured victories in their first five Premier League matches and performed convincingly in the Champions League.

On the other side of the pitch, Newcastle United’s triumph propelled them confidently into the fourth round of the English League Cup.
