Postecoglou is making Tottenham fans proud of their beloved team, but don’t forget it’s just the beginning.
Tottenham have come a long way since May. Despite a 4-1 win over Leeds United on the final day of the 2022-23 season, Spurs are only eighth in the Premier League and for the first time since 2009- 10 they failed to qualify for the European tournament.
They are also looking for a new permanent coach, after sacking Antonio Conte after defaming players and president Daniel Levy in March. Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann were thought to be among Spurs’ frontrunners for the position, but their options are quickly dwindling.
In the end, Tottenham chose Ange Postecoglou, who left Celtic after winning two consecutive Scottish Premiership titles. It’s not a big name Spurs fans have seen often in recent years, but Levy spoke highly of Postecoglou.”Ange brings a positive mindset and a fast, attacking style of play,” said the Tottenham boss. “He has a history of success in player development and understands the importance of the academy link – everything that matters to our club. We are eager to welcome Ange to the fold.” enter as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
Expectations were already low, but were further reduced when Harry Kane completed his move to Bayern Munich two months after Postecoglou arrived in London North. A huge undertaking suddenly becomes impossible.
But Postecoglou overcame the difficulties in an amazing way. Spurs have taken 13 points from a possible 15 at the start of the new season and sit second in the table, behind champions Manchester City.
Of course, it is too early to predict Tottenham’s success this season, but it cannot be denied that they are on the right track under the leadership of Postecoglou. Spurs have been desperate for an attractive, progressive coach since Mauricio Pochettino left the team in 2019, and now they have one.
And if Postecoglou can maintain the newfound harmony in the dressing room, there’s no reason why Spurs can’t dream of success. They now have quality players in each position and should at least aim to return to the top 4.
Not participating in Europe could benefit Spurs, as they will have more recovery time between matches than other competitors – including Arsenal. Arsenal cannot yet play at full strength, but is still considered to have the best chance to overthrow Man City, after being almost successful last season. A 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium is an acceptable result for Spurs.
And with what has been shown, Postecoglou is really the person Spurs need and Tottenham can surprise everyone at the end of the season.
