Chelsea trades Lukaku to reclaim striker previously “Discarded”

Chelsea is reportedly considering a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and Tammy Abraham, with Lukaku currently on loan at Roma while Tammy Abraham was sold by Chelsea to the Italian team.

In the 2021 transfer window, Chelsea let go of Tammy Abraham in favor of signing Romelu Lukaku for a significant fee of £98 million after his successful season with Inter Milan. However, this decision quickly turned into a major blemish in Chelsea’s recent transfer history, as Lukaku struggled both on and off the field, eventually leading to his move to AS Roma.

This sequence of events highlights the complexity of Chelsea’s decisions regarding their strikers. Initially choosing Lukaku over Abraham, the London club now appears to reluctantly consider “Little Drogba” as a replacement for the Belgian striker. Chelsea’s attack has been a source of concern for coach Mauricio Pochettino this season, with only five goals scored, and no goals in September.

However, this transition could pose its own set of challenges, as Abraham, following a promising first season at Roma, has faced a significant setback due to a serious injury in 2022. His inability to regain top form in Serie A raises questions about his potential success upon returning to the Premier League.

On a personal level, Lukaku seems to have found his groove at AS Roma, particularly under the management of Jose Mourinho. The Belgian striker has scored in all three of AS Roma’s recent matches across all competitions, providing even more reasons for Lukaku to resist a return to Chelsea.
