The current season has been too much for Yankee supporters to bear.
Only a few thоusand fans bothered to come up on a dreary afternoon in The Bronx to watch the Yankees play the Diamondbacks in a makeup game for Saturday’s game that was postponed due to rain. The game was the Yankees’ final home game of the year.
It occurred one day after the Yankees were officially eliminated from any chance of making the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
At the Stadium, the Yankees defeated the Diamondbacks by a score of 6-4 to improve their record to 41-39.
During the course of the season, they attracted a league-leading 40,349 fans per game on average.
The team announced that there were 41,096 people that paid to attend the event.
That was intended to be for the game on Saturday, which was going to involve a giveaway of an Aaron Judge bobblehead.
Aaron Judge, speaking on the Yankees season on Sunday, said, “When you don’t show up and you don’t produce and you get kicked out like this in the regular season, that’s a big failure right there,” referring to the team’s elimination from the postseason.
“We have a lot of work to do, a lot of internal talks to have, and a lot of things that we need to figure out and get right for the following year,” the leader said.
The Diamondbacks greeted those in attendance with a two-run first inning that was made possible by a two-run double that was Һit by centerfielder Alek Thomas.
Austin Wells Һit a two-run home ball for the Yankees in the fourth inning, which knotted the game, and the Yankees seized the lead for good in the eighth inning.
Aaron Boone, the manager of the Yankees, stated before the game that he did not know what his future held with the Yankees.
“I think that will be part of the conversations we have organizationally,” Boone said. “I think that will be part of the conversations we have.” “I’ll take a step back and assess the areas in which I want to continue making progress on some things, as well as the areas in which you want to make adjustments. We can only hope that all of those factors contribute to us being in a better position. And even if we had won 100 games and qualified for the playoffs, that contemplation and evaluation would not have been significantly different. You never stop working toward being better… The best that I can do is all that I can do at this point.
The Yankees will complete the season with games in Toronto and Kansas City, both of which are away from Yankee Stadium, therefore this will be their last home game of the year.
