Erik ten Hag explains decision to bench Garnacho at Burnley clash

Manchester United recently faced a challenging match against Burnley, ultimately securing three crucial points thanks to the individual brilliance of Bruno Fernandes. In this contest, coach Erik ten Hag opted to start several reserve players, including Mejbri and Evans.

Notably, on the right-wing, the Dutch coach favored Bruno Fernandes over a traditional winger like Garnacho. Fernandes went on to justify Ten Hag’s decision with an exceptional performance. Following the match, Ten Hag shed light on why Garnacho didn’t begin the game.

He explained, “In the match against Bayern, I observed that the entire team performed admirably. Therefore, when facing Burnley, I chose to maintain our existing system. I wanted to preserve the momentum Manchester United displayed in the midweek Bayern match. The physical condition of all positions is quite good.”

Garnacho was introduced into the Bayern match in the 81st minute, where the Argentine striker displayed an aggressive style in the limited time he had on the field. Previously, in the defeat to Brighton, Erik ten Hag also brought on Garnacho in the closing moments of the match.

In the Burnley game, newcomer Amrabat made his debut appearance for Manchester United. The Moroccan midfielder entered the pitch during the final minutes of the match but had limited time to make a significant impact.

Manchester United supporters were elated to see Raphael Varane return after his injury-induced absence. The French defender replaced Reguilon in the 79th minute. Man Utd fans are hopeful that Varane’s return will bolster the team’s defense, which has been underperforming in recent matches.
