The general manager who re-signed right fielder Aaron Judge this offseason was the target of many boos and jeers from fans.
Several supporters in the stands behind Judge were holding placards reading “Fire Cashman” in protest of the team’s general manager, Brian Cashman, for putting together a squad that will almost surely not make the playoffs this year.
The rally, planned by Yankees fan Jon Borowski, never really developed into a protest.
There were placards reading “Fire Trashman” and “Cash Out” in the bleachers at Friday’s game against the Diamondbacks, but the volume of the “Fire Cashman” chants was comparable to that of the “Let’s go Yankees” yells.
A spokeswoman for the Yankees indicated that fans are welcome to bring in signs as long as they do not contain any profanity and are not too large to оbstruct the view of other spectators.
Cashman has taken some heat for a season he called a “disаster” last month.
Even though Cashman has been the general manager since 1998, the team has not won a World Series since 2009.
