Mauricio Pochettino confirms the captain ready to resume training post-injury

During his pre-match press conference, Mauricio Pochettino shared the news that the Englishman is set to rejoin the squad, alongside Carney Chukwuemeka.

Hopes were high that these injury issues were in the past for him, especially after being entrusted with the role of club captain for the season. However, the captaincy has since rotated between Ben Chilwell and Conor Gallagher during various stages of the campaign.

Nevertheless, Reece James has made a significant impression on the manager since his arrival in the summer, with Pochettino even describing the 23-year-old as the ‘perfect’ player.

Despite the commendable performances of Malo Gusto in James’ absence, the absence of the right-back has been sorely felt. Therefore, Chelsea supporters will be delighted to hear that his return is imminent, alongside another promising talent.

Pochettino stated, “He was training with Reece James. Chukwuemeka and James are very close to rejoining the team for training.”

Chukwuemeka had only recently scored his debut goal for the club against West Ham before being forced off with what initially appeared to be a serious injury.

His return will be another welcome development at Stamford Bridge, as he had shown great promise in the opening games before his setback.
