Here’s why Kylian Mbappe will thrive against Newcastle

The prospect of Kylian Mbappe gracing St. James’ Park in the upcoming Champions League group game is bound to evoke a mix of excitement and apprehension among Newcastle fans.

On European nights, the volume at the iconic stadium reaches deafening levels, and with the October 4 fixture marking the club’s first Champions League game at home in over two decades, the atmosphere promises to be electric even before kick-off. A goalless draw against Milan in their opening game was arguably the best result the Magpies could have expected given the circumstances, setting the stage nicely for Paris Saint-Germain’s visit in less than two weeks’ time.

Dubbed the ‘group of death,’ Newcastle’s fate is in their hands. If they can contain Mbappe and his teammates, there’s reason to believe they could secure victory, just as they did against a formidable Barcelona side in 1997.

Former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch, speaking on CBS Sports, believes the Frenchman thrives on the grand stage and will relish putting on a show in Tyneside.

“Mbappe likes the big show,” Marsch remarked.

“Anytime he gets to play in front of a large crowd and showcase his quality, I think he will be up for the match.

“Certainly, this is the toughest group. When you look at the four teams, whoever comes out on top will have to play six really good matches and have some luck along the way.”

While PSG boasts an array of talent beyond Mbappe, there’s no denying that he poses the greatest threat and must be kept in check for the full 90 minutes.
