FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi recently opened up about his move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2021, the lack of homage received for Argentina’s World Cup victory, and his relationship with Kylian Mbappe during an interview with comedian Migue Granados for Olga.
In his first press conference at his new club, Inter Miami, Messi admitted that his departure from Barcelona to Paris as a free agent due to Financial Fair Play restrictions was not something he initially desired. He expressed that leaving Barcelona and adapting to a completely different environment in Paris was challenging.
Granados asked Messi if he would have chosen not to join PSG if given the opportunity. Messi acknowledged that the situation did not unfold as he had expected, especially after believing he was close to signing a new contract with Barcelona. He mentioned that although his time at PSG had its difficulties, it was meant to be that way, and things happen for a reason.
Messi also pointed out that he was the only player among Argentina’s World Cup-winning team who did not receive recognition from his club, apart from the other 25 players.
Regarding the upcoming World Cup, which will be hosted jointly by the United States, where he now plays, Messi stated that it is too far in the future for him to think about it. He emphasized his focus on the Copa America, which is being played in the United States, and his desire to prepare well for it. Messi fondly remembered the Centenario edition of the Copa America held on American soil in 2016, despite Argentina’s loss to Chile in the final via a penalty shootout.
