After a sluggish start to the season, Manchester United is reportedly considering making an offer for a new goalkeeper to replace Andre Onana.
With three losses and two victories in their first five Premier League games of the new season, the Red Devils have had a dismal start.
Man Utd has now given up ten goals, which is more than recently promoted Sheffield United, who have yet to record a victory this year, and is tied for third most in the Premier League.
In the summer transfer window, Onana was acquired by Old Trafford with €55 million from Inter Milan. Ten Hag saw the Cameroonian international as his top pick to succeed David de Gea, and they also signed Altay Bayindir to provide additional insurance.
With Spanish tabloid Fichajes stating that the Red Devils are already looking to replace Ten Hag’s “chosen one,” he has yet to inspire fans with faith that he would be a success at Man Utd.
Onana ‘does not offer promises despite Ten Hag’s confidence, and the club is considering safer choices,’ it is understood. with Diogo Costa of Porto back on the schedule.
Big midweek games include Bayern vs. Manchester United, Tonali and Toon in Milan, and Brighton and Liverpool in the Europa League.
Now that Costa is “on the radar of other European giants such as Bayern Munich or Barcelona,” Man Utd is “willing to launch an offer close to 70 million euros” (£60 million) to secure his services.
ex-Man United fullback Paul Parker believes that instead of purchasing Onana in the summer, the Red Devils would have been better off keeping with De Gea.
“I can’t come out and say that I dislike Andre Onana because I don’t,” Parker said to gamblers. I would have stayed with David De Gea if we could go back in time. He is still a better goalie in my opinion.
“However, Onana is still a competent goalie. He is a capable goalkeeper who has helped the team’s build-up play, and I believe he may be a valuable asset on counterattacks when Rashford or Hojlund need to be set free by a deep pass from Man United.
Parker continued, “But I might wish that he made more remarkable saves. He sometimes gives me the impression of a TV goalkeeper who makes simple saves appear difficult.
“It’s only been four games, and he will get better, but nobody should immediately be making him the scapegoat for anything.
Every time he makes a mistake, people will compare him to David De Gea, one of the best goalkeepers of all time who played for Manchester United. This is the difficult part for him. That kind of weight on your shoulders is unpleasant.
