Man City fight with Real Madrid for Chelsea’s captain

According to reports from Football Transfers, Manchester City is considering Reece James as a long-term defensive option, irrespective of Kyle Walker’s recent contract extension.

James, a 23-year-old target for Real Madrid, is currently with Chelsea but has faced persistent injury setbacks that have affected his career trajectory.

Despite being regarded as one of the Premier League’s top full-backs, James’ frequent fitness issues have caused his market value to decline. He has been absent from the pitch for Chelsea since the opening game against Liverpool, and there is no confirmed return date. Mauricio Pochettino, the Chelsea manager, is eager to have him back as soon as possible.

While James is sidelined, rumors of a potential transfer from Chelsea have gained momentum. Real Madrid remains interested in signing him, but the reported fee might be significantly higher than initially anticipated.

Chelsea considers James a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal at Real Madrid, but they may not be willing to part with him anytime soon. Manchester City, on the other hand, appears to be a potential suitor. Pep Guardiola admires James for his defensive and offensive capabilities, and the club has reportedly initiated talks with Chelsea regarding the 23-year-old, who is also on Real Madrid’s radar.

Chelsea is reluctant to sell their talented right-back, but if they do not see improvements in James’ fitness situation, they may reconsider their stance. Manchester City views him as a suitable long-term replacement for Kyle Walker, who recently extended his contract until 2026. It is emphasized that Walker’s new contract will not affect Manchester City’s pursuit of James, as Guardiola is keen on having the best options available in his squad, similar to the decision to sign Josko Gvardiol despite the presence of Nathan Ake.

In recent years, Chelsea and Manchester City have been involved in various transfer dealings, particularly during the Todd Boehly era. This includes players like Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, and Mateo Kovacic moving between the two clubs.
