Preview: PSG vs. Dortmund in the Champions League

Dortmund enters this clash with an undefeated record this season, following a thrilling 4-2 victory over Freiburg on Saturday.

Edin Terzic’s side displayed remarkable resilience, fighting back from a 2-1 deficit to claim all three points. Mats Hummels was the standout performer, netting twice in that match. However, competition for a place in central defense is fierce, with the speedy Niklas Süle vying for a spot, particularly against the likes of Kylian Mbappe and former Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani.

In attack, Terzic might opt for changes after Füllkrug made a significant impact coming off the bench in the previous game. Marius Wolf is also a contender for a starting role, although Julian Ryerson and Ramy Bensebaini are likely to retain their full-back positions.

PSG’s preparations for this encounter have been less than ideal, as they suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 3-2 at home to Nice on Kolo Muani’s debut for the club.

Despite the loss, Mbappe impressed with a brace, taking his tally to seven goals in four appearances. He will be joined by former Dortmund winger Ousmane Dembele, who netted ten goals in 49 matches for BVB in the 2016/17 season. Another player with Dortmund connections is right-back Achraf Hakimi, who contributed 12 goals in 73 appearances for the German side between 2018 and 2020.

Key Match Stats:

  • Donyell Malen has been Dortmund’s leading scorer this season with three goals.
