‘Almost undroppable’ is praised by Pep Guardiola Manchester City’s use of Julian Alvarez to stop West Ham’s comeback

Following Saturday’s comeback victory over West Ham by Manchester City, Pep Guardiola declared Julian Alvarez to be “almost undroppable.”

Jeremy Doku scored his first goal for the team since joining for £55.5 million from Rennes during the summer transfer window to tie the score in the first half after James Ward-Prowse had given David Moyes’ team the lead.

Guardiola stated, “We had concerns since he arrived from Bolivia with jet lag and was so exhausted the day before yesterday.

He stated he felt well when we spoke to him yesterday night and that he was feeling better.

He has a strong work ethic, is a threat with goals and assists, and is learning how to move well in the pockets. We are thrilled that the club invited him the previous year.

‘[Ilkay] Gundo left and regrettably, with Kevin [De Bruyne]’s injury, he now has his chance and is making use of it. He is becoming almost impossible to drop.

The ‘amazing’ performance of Doku, who struggled to have an effect in the 5-1 victory over Fulham prior to the international break, was also praised by Guardiola.

Guardiola stated, “I was at Barcelona, and I felt that he played a little bit shy [against Fulham].

With a squad that had recently won the Triple Crown, he had just arrived and had two to three days of training. He may have had a small amount of this.

But not today. Utilize your skill as a winger, I advised him. Go! It’s one against one and one against two. If you’re not feeling it, pass the ball back to Josko (Gvardiol) and try again.

Today was extraordinary, combative, and full of grit from the very first minute. The byline was reached frequently. He has done a lot of good. Really happy about that. He began to demonstrate the quality that we believe to be present today.

“We must exercise patience when signing a young player like him to a long-term [contract].” We cannot and I did not anticipate City to perform as well in the second game as he did today. I can’t think of anything similar from a long time ago that he played as he did today.

‘He needs to learn certain procedures. We are always available to assist him. Every player at Manchester City must be [himself]. Each player in this room is quite talented.
