In Manchester United’s loss against Brighton, Erik ten Hag applauded the efforts of Hannibal Mejbri, Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford, and Rasmus Hojlund.
The Seagulls played the Red Devils off the field, dropping them to 13th place in the Premier League standings after three losses in their first five games. With Brighton leading the hosts 3-0 after 70 minutes, Saturday’s game was all but finished.
Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and Joao Pedro all scored to give the guests all three points and humiliate United. With 17 minutes remaining, Mejbri did score, but the Red Devils were unable to make up the final two goals of the deficit.
The academy product’s strike, which was sent in from outside the box, was remarkable. On a trying day, Ten Hag was thrilled by his cameo at Old Trafford, and the Dutchman also praised the other trio’s performances.
He accomplished the goal for which we took him on, making a difference and adding vigor. Mejbri “did it,” Ten Hag remarked. “I believe there were more players, including Marcus Rashford and Diogo Dalot, who both played extremely well.
“Rasmus Hojlund was constantly a menace. On the field, we had several excellent athletes. We were unfortunate and unlucky. The outcome was that we didn’t find what we were looking for.On Hojlund’s entire United debut, Ten Hag’s decision to replace the Dane shortly after the hour mark was unexpected. When Anthony Martial was introduced, the home crowd booed that choice, but Ten Hag was unconcerned by their response.
“I think it was good. You can see from the fans’ initial reaction at Old Trafford how well received he was, and I thought he did a great job.” Therefore, I consider it beneficial that they provide him this signal or message,” he stated.
“It will give him confidence, Rasmus, but everyone knows he came in with a minor issue, we developed him over the past three to four weeks, and he isn’t ready for an entire game,” someone said. Additionally, we have a lot of games that must be played quickly, so yes, we must improve his fitness as well.
“I believe that we played well tonight as well. If you analyze the first half, it’s ridiculous. I believe that we got off to a good start; we gave them opportunities, and on their second assault and first chance, it went in. After that, we must improve and overcome the setback. When we finally get back into the game, we score the equalizer, but it is later overturned. And I believe that is the phase we are in right now. Then you can point the finger at anyone, but you also have to look in the mirror and at yourself, make your own luck, and, yes, we need to get better.
“It’s all about character, and now we have to see how strong we are, how the team stays together, and which players are standing up, showing the character, and leading the team because in all the games, all the games we have seen, we can play very well,”
