Legendary Manchester United player David Beckham reportedly endorsed England center-back Harry Maguire, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils defender has come under fire recently, and things got worse last Tuesday when he scored an own goal in a 3-1 friendly victory for the Three Lions over Scotland.
Due to Maguire’s unpopularity under manager Erik ten Hag, he has been the target of taunts from the opposing fans. Beckham messaged Maguire to express his support.
After the game, the Man United hero texted the former captain, asking him to disprove his detractors.
Beckham praised Maguire for how he had endured months of mockery and abuse and advised him to disregard the haters.
The center-back, who is anticipated to sit on the bench when the Red Devils take on Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford later today, said the message meant the world to him.
Due to injuries sustained in the final match before the international break against Arsenal, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof were unable to complete the match, but they healed in time to represent their countries.
Against the Seagulls, Ten Hag is anticipated to stay with them, although Maguire might play if one of them is unable to finish the match.
The 30-year-old lost his position as captain in July because the manager of the Red Devils preferred someone in his starting lineup to hold the position. He was also anticipated to leave Old Trafford in the summer.
Maguire will now have to show himself once more in the Man United colors in an effort to force his way back into the first squad after a trade to West Ham United fell through.
Beckham is aware of what it takes to withstand harsh criticism because of what happened after his dismissal from the 1998 World Cup. Hopefully, Maguire can pick up a few pointers from him and use them to inspire him as he attempts to regain his form and confidence.
