In Saturday’s match against Brighton, Sofyan Amrabat won’t be able to make his Manchester United debut. On the final day of the summer transfer window, the midfielder from Fiorentina moved to Old Trafford on a temporary loan that can become permanent the following summer.
After suffering an injury, the 27-year-old withdrew from the Moroccan team ahead of matches against Liberia and Burkina Faso in the days that followed.
Amrabat won’t play this weekend when United host Roberto De Zerbi’s club to Old Trafford because Erik ten Hag is being cautious about reintroducing him to the first team after his recent injury.Amrabat regrettably returned with the injury, so he won’t be ready for tomorrow (Saturday), but I believe on the short notice [soon], sure, he will be. He said as much to MUTV. And I have no doubt that they will bring us all delight.
Amrabat was one of four players signed on the final day of the transfer window, along with Johnny Evans returning to the team, Altay Bayindir, a goalkeeper, joining from Fenerbache, and Sergio Reguilon, a Tottenham loanee.
Reguilon was a sub in the 3-1 loss to Arsenal before the international break after being brought in because both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia were injured. The Spaniard will be looking to make his debut shortly after two complete weeks of training with his new team.
Ten Hag declared, “We are a little short on defenders, so [Reguilon] can come quickly.”
Mason Mount and Raphael Varane are still sidelined, but Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof, who were both forced off in the loss to Arsenal, are likely to be ready for the Seagulls’ visit.
Due to his public altercation with the United manager, Jadon Sancho has also been benched.
The former Borussia Dortmund player is training alone himself after declining ten Hag’s request for an apology for his outburst last week.
