The candidates for this year’s Best Awards have been announced by FIFA.
The majority of the 12 players on the shortlist for Best Men’s Player are Premier League players.
Kevin De Bruyne, Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and Declan Rice are just a few of the players who appear.
But Cristiano Ronaldo’s exclusion has angered some fans.
The veteran Portuguese player played all of 2023 in Saudi Arabia.
For Al-Nassr, Ronaldo, 38, has scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in 24 games.
When the candidates were announced, one fan yelled, “Where’s Ronaldo?”
Five Manchester City stars made the 12-man shortlist
An additional user tweeted, “They forgot Ronaldo.”
Without Ronaldo, that list is lacking, said a third.
Cristiano Ronaldo was omitted from The Best’s shortlist
Another complained that “Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to be on this list as much as Messi.”
Also not nominated the previous year was Ronaldo.
However, despite transferring to Inter Miami in the MLS, his former nemesis Lionel Messi made the list.
Ilkay Gundogan, Marcelo Brozovic, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Kylian Mbappe, and Victor Osimhen—all former Manchester City players—were also named.
Fifa also unveiled their list of contenders for further honors.
Andre Onana of Manchester United is on the shortlist for the top goalkeeper along with Ederson of City, Yassine Bounou, Thibaut Courtois, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Ange Postecoglou, Pep Guardiola, Simone Inzaghi, Luciano Spalletti, and Xavi are the other four managers up for Best Coach.
