In response to recent controversial statements made by Jadon Sancho on social media, Manchester United (MU) has initiated disciplinary measures.
On the evening of September 14 (Vietnam time), MU issued a brief statement on their homepage outlining the situation with the 23-year-old player. According to the announcement, Sancho will be participating in an individual training program and will be separated from the first team until internal disciplinary issues are resolved.
While the statement did not specify a return date for Sancho, it indicates that the star player will definitely be absent from the Premier League match between MU and Brighton in round 5 (scheduled for 9:00 p.m. on September 16). This absence also raises questions about his availability for the opening match of Group A in the Champions League against Bayern Munich (scheduled for 2:00 a.m. on September 21).
Shortly after the announcement, Sancho made his first public appearance in front of the media while driving to the Carrington training center. The 23-year-old player appeared visibly solemn, covering his face with a hood to avoid photographers’ lenses.
The recent controversy surrounding Sancho began during the Arsenal vs. MU match in round 4 of the Premier League when Coach Ten Hag omitted Sancho’s name from the registration list, citing his performance in training sessions as the reason. In response, Sancho posted a reply to the Dutch coach on his personal Twitter account.
This situation cast doubt on Sancho’s future at Old Trafford, with rumors even suggesting a potential loan move to Saudi Arabian team Al Ettifaq at the end of the summer transfer window. However, this deal fell through due to disagreements between the two clubs.
Furthermore, there are reports that Sancho’s former club, Borussia Dortmund, is keen on reuniting with him in January 2024. Dortmund’s management is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to make a loan offer for the 23-year-old player provided that MU covers the majority of his salary.
It’s understood that MU’s leadership will make the final decision on Sancho’s future after direct discussions with the player. However, sources suggest that Sancho has no intention of continuing at MU as long as Coach Ten Hag remains in charge. The conflict between the coach and player is described as “unresolvable.”
In addition to Sancho, another MU star, Antony, has been indefinitely removed from the squad amid allegations of assault and sexual assault involving his ex-girlfriend and two other women.
