Following a less-than-impressive performance from newcomer Moises Caicedo, Chelsea President Todd Boehly has made it clear that he is contemplating a significant decision to bring Nicolo Barella.
Inter Milan’s exceptional midfielder and a prominent candidate for the 2023 Golden Ball, to Stamford Bridge.
Barella had established himself as a key player at Inter Milan during their run to the Champions League final last season. The 26-year-old midfielder also plays a pivotal role in the Italian national team, securing victory in the Euro 2020 championship. Having been nominated for the 2023 Golden Ball, Barella finds himself in competition with luminaries such as Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, and Kylian Mbappé.
Chelsea is not the only club keeping a close watch on Barella; Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are also showing interest. Nevertheless, Boehly seems particularly resolute, having announced his willingness to allocate a staggering £90 million to secure Barella’s signature—a sum that could certainly give Inter Milan and Barella pause for thought.
Currently bound by contract to Inter Milan until 2026, Barella has expressed his desire to remain with the club. However, Chelsea has demonstrated their ability to sway decisions with enticing offers. “The Blues” have shown that they are not hesitant to invest substantially in building a formidable squad, and Barella could be the ideal addition alongside Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Chelsea experienced an eventful summer transfer window with several high-profile acquisitions, including the record-breaking signing of Moises Caicedo from Brighton for £115 million. However, the Ecuadorian midfielder has yet to fully demonstrate his prowess in orchestrating the attack in his initial performances. Consequently, it is entirely plausible that President Todd Boehly may opt to make substantial investments in the upcoming winter transfer window.
