Manchester United has unveiled their 25-man Premier League squad for the upcoming season, establishing the core group of senior players eligible to participate in the competition until January.
Premier League regulations stipulate that clubs must include a minimum of eight “home-grown” players within the 25-man roster. To qualify for this status, a player doesn’t necessarily have to be a product of Manchester United’s academy; they must have spent at least three years at an FA-affiliated club before turning 21.
In this season’s 25-man squad, Manchester United has maintained a 16-9 split between non-home-grown and home-grown players. It’s important to note that Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are not part of the squad. This is because players born on or after January 1, 2002, do not count toward the squad limit, allowing clubs to use an unlimited number of Under-21 players throughout the season if they choose to do so. Garnacho is 19 years old, while Hojlund is 20, and both are expected to play significant roles in the 2023/24 season.
Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, and Hannibal Mejbro are also absent from the squad for the same reason, but this doesn’t affect their eligibility to play in the Premier League this season.
Despite being currently back in Brazil amid assault allegations, Antony is included in the squad. Furthermore, Jadon Sancho is also part of the lineup, despite previous discussions of a potential loan to Al Ettifaq and issues surrounding his training performance.
