Real Madrid provided a summer window to sign a Portugal international valued at €80 million

Jorge Mendes reportedly made Real Madrid an offer to sign Pedro Goncalves, a Sporting CP player with a €80 million release clause, this summer.

Pedro Goncalves joined Sporting CP from Famalicao in August 2020, and since then, he has established himself as one of the top players in the Primeira Liga. The 25-year-old player made his way to the Jose Alvalade Stadium following a successful 2019–20 campaign. And by assuming Bruno Fernandes’s role at Sporting, he has turned into a talismanic figure for the team.

The Portuguese international has had frequent calls to his country’s team but has not yet established himself as a key member of the Seleccao. Nevertheless, in 133 games with Sporting CP, Pote has tallied 59 goals and 34 assists. At the Jose Alvalade Stadium this past summer, though, he confronts an unclear future.

A number of prestigious clubs expressed interest in the athlete in an effort to hire him. The player’s €80 million release clause did not deter the majority of suitors, with the exception of some, including Aston Villa. While Real Madrid searched the market for an attacker, Jorge Mendes offered the 25-year-old Portuguese international to Real Madrid.

Sporting CP was a desirable option because he would have accepted a bid of around €40 million. Additionally, Pote was a desirable target because of his versatility in both central and expansive areas. Jorge Mendes offered Real Madrid the chance to sign the player during the summer transfer window, but they declined.

Despite not bringing in a replacement for Karim Benzema, Florentino Perez was pleased with Real Madrid’s offensive unit. Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Gomes are seen as the Merengues’ attacking options for this year. Real Madrid graciously turned down the chance to sign the 25-year-old international from Spain.
