Brandon Woodruff tosses a 6-hιtter as the Milwaukee Brewers pound the Miami Marlins 12-0

On Monday night, both Brandon Woodruff and Jess Luzardo were pitching at the top of their games.

It was Woodruff alone who maintained momentum.

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff threw a complete game shutout for the first time since 2021, and his team set a season best with 17 hits in a 12-0 rout of the Miami Marlins.

Although Corbin Burnes, Devin Williams, and Abner Uribe combined to hold the Yankees hitless through the first 10 innings of the previous night’s 4-3 loss at New York, Milwaukee was able to rebound with a blowout victory the following day.

Woodruff, after completing his first nine-inning game, remarked, “Opportunities like this just don’t come around much.” I wasn’t thinking about it, especially after yesterday’s game; although, it was a long game in which we utilized a lot of players; and we did play well enough to win the game the day before, but we lost nevertheless. I really wаnted to go out there and help my team win today. Fortunately, I was able to complete it.

In the first game of a 2020 pаndemic-shortened doubleheader, Woodruff pitched a complete game and lost 4-2 to St. Louis. For the Brewers, it was their first shutout since September 4, 2021, when Adrian Houser threw a three-hitter in a 4-0 victory over the Cardinals.

Woodruff (5-1), a veteran right-hander, was allowed to throw the ninth inning by manager Craig Counsell, although he was limited to 105 pitches. Even though Woodruff allowed two singles in the ninth inning, Counsell still let him finish the no-hitter on his 106th pitch.

“My heart was just racing, to be honest, getting out there and warming up and having those warmup pitches,” Woodruff said. The first few pitches I made were completely off target, so I had a small pep talk with myself and told myself to calm down and keep trying. Fortunately, my efforts were sufficient to see me through. Yes, I was apprehensive.

Woodruff pitched brilliantly again, just six days after he shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing only two hits over seven innings of a 7-3 victory. Woodruff has allowed just three runs in 28 innings over his last four outings.

In a similar vein, Luzardo (9-9) entered the game on a roll, having allowed just two runs in 18 innings in his previous three appearances. Unfortunately, he allowed six runs and ten hits on Monday.

When asked about his condition, Luzardo remarked, “just felt little out of whack mechanically.”

Just “I’ve got to be better,” he told himself. To quote the speaker: “There’s no excuse for it.”

Attacks from Milwaukee started from the very beginning. Mark Canha Һit his 10th home run of the season to start the bottom of the first inning, crushing a 2-2 changeup from Luzardo over the left field fence.

You mention the first time up to bat,” Counsell remarked. If you greet a hоt starting pitcher with a leadoff home run, it will put him, and the rest of the team, on their heels.

Willy Adames ended the game 3-for-5 with four runs batted in. Three-for-five Һitter Tyrone Taylor scored twice and drove in four runs. There were other two-Һit games from Canha, William Contreras, Andruw Monasterio, and Sal Frelick.

Against Luzardo, the Brewers scored three in the third and two in the fifth.

Off Daniel Castano in the eighth inning, Milwaukee scored five additional runs, four of which were earned. Adames’s three-run triple down the left-field line in that inning was the inning’s highlight.

The Marlins’ deficit was so large that catcher Jacob Stallings had to take the mound in the eighth. Off of him, Joey Wiemer doubled in a run.

DONALDSON’S FIRST ACT

The 2015 AL MVP, Josh Donaldson, started his career with the Brewers by going 1 for 4 with an RBI single. After being cut by the Yankees, he found work with Milwaukee’s minor league system.

Donaldson collected his fifth single of the year with the Һit. Donaldson has played in 33 games for the Yankees this season, collecting 15 hits (10 home runs).

ROOM FOR TRAINERS

Right-handed Pitcher for the Marlins On Tuesday, Double-A Pensacola pitcher Sixto Sánchez will make a rehab appearance in an effort to return from shoulder concerns that have kept him out of the majors since 2020. He is scheduled to throw either one inning or 20 pitches. On Saturday, Sánchez participated in a bullpen session and threw 25 pitches.

LF, the brewers Christian Yelich’s injured lower back forced him to sit out for a third consecutive game. RHP J.C. Mejia has been moved to the 60-day disabled list due to shoulder issues. Mejia hasn’t thrown since August 13th.
