Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has received a helpful injury boost from Lisandro Martinez.
With a foot injury, the defender was forced to leave United’s 3-1 loss against Arsenal prior to the break.
Martinez had to leave the game for the second time in four games, after missing three months due to a metatarsal injury.
The withdrawal of Victor Lindelof added to the Argentine’s substitution, leaving United with the center-back pairing of Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans.
Martinez’s absence would be disastrous for United’s porous defense, which is already suffering from Raphael Varane’s injury.
The Argentine missed his country’s victory over Ecuador over the weekend, and they now have Bolivia as their World Cup qualifying opponent.
However, Martinez has made it sound like he’s healthy ahead of Saturday’s match against Brighton.
Martinez posted a photo of a Bolivian flag with the phrase, “Ready for what’s coming,” on Instagram.
Martinez has spent the past two days engaging in full training with the team.
It’s good news for Ten Hag, whose team has only six points after its first four games.
On Saturday, Brighton travels to Old Trafford for the first time since the Seagulls defeated United in Ten Hag’s inaugural match as manager in August 2022.
