Dodgers make a significant roster change despite pitching concerns

Tuesday night, just before the start of the series against the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers made a few moves.

Prior to Tuesday night’s home series start against the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers have made a few roster changes. The Dodgers have placed RHP Wander Suero on the disabled list due to lower back discomfort and recalled RHP Gavin Stone.

The Dodgers have promoted Stone as a result of their decision to place Ryan Yarbrough on the paternity test. He will also start the first game of the series against the Padres. The Dodgers decided to postpone Clayton Kershaw’s next start, which allowed the 24-year-old Stone to face Los Angeles’ National League West division opponents at Dodger Stadium. Kershaw was originally slated to start on Tuesday. This season, Stone has now made five appearances, three of which were starts, and he has a 1-0 record, 10.50 ERA, and 2.28 WHIP.

In a 7-4 road victory over the Boston Red Sox on July 28, Stone’s most recent MLB outing included four earned runs on five hits and two strikeouts.

Contrarily, Suero is placed on the injured list a day after the Dodgers called him up from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Throughout the 2023 MLB regular season, the 31-year-old Dominican alternated between the major leagues and the minor levels. He has appeared in five games with the Dodgers in total so far in 2023, recording a 7.88 ERA and 1.375 WHIP.

With an 87-55 record going into the matchup against the Padres, the Dodgers are still comfortably in first place in the NL West, 13 games ahead of the rest of the division.
