Despite Man Utd’s ongoing attention, a Premier League player has “told club he wants to leave”

Joao Palhinha, a midfielder for Fulham, has made it plain he wants to reconsider his decision to quit the team in January. Manchester United is reportedly still interested in acquiring his services.

Palhinha, a Portuguese midfielder, joined the Cottagers last summer after leaving Sporting Lisbon for £20 million, but it appeared like his time in the Premier League might only be temporary.

The 28-year-old midfielder had a standout debut season for Marco Silva’s team, scoring four goals in 40 appearances, but it appeared like he would be moving on to greener pastures.

On the latest deadline day for transfers earlier this month, Palhinha appeared destined for German powerhouse Bayern Munich.

The two clubs had agreed on a transfer fee of €65 million, and the midfielder had even gone to Germany for a physical to finalize the deal.

The transfer ultimately failed, though, because it was predicated on Fulham being able to sign a midfielder to replace the departing Palhinha.

Due to the German transfer deadline being at 5pm, which is almost six hours earlier than the UK deadline, Palhinha is still a Cottagers player because Fulham was unable to find a replacement in time.

According to The Athletic, the midfielder is admired by both United and manager Ten Hag, and the Portuguese international himself is reportedly open to the prospect of moving to Old Trafford.

Although Bayern and Palhinha had reached an agreement, the most recent information may be of interest to United and Ten Hag.

In order to make a move to the Bavarian team, who are still looking for a holding midfielder and are rumored to have told the player they will try to recruit him again in the New Year, Palhinha is still planning to leave Fulham this January, according to TEAMtalk.

But given the state of Scott McTominay’s future, the departure of Fred, and the uncertainty surrounding Sofyan Amrabat’s future in United’s central midfield, it will be interesting to see if the Old Trafford team acts upon their prior admiration for the Fulham player when the transfer window reopens in a few months.
