Young Chelsea defender who is delaying signing a new deal after the Blues agree to a £31 million fee is a target for Man City

According to reports, MANCHESTER CITY is interested in signing Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen.

The left-back’s contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire at the conclusion of the current campaign, but he is being reticent about extending it.

Maatsen, 21, shone while playing on loan for Burnley in the Championship last year, helping the Clarets earn promotion to the Premier League.

Chelsea is eager to sign him to a long-term contract. Late in the transfer window, the club did accept Burnley’s offer, but the deal ultimately fell through.

Maatsen turned down the Blues’ offer of a £31.5 million loan with a buy-back requirement.

Manchester City reportedly want to sign Ian Maatsen

Due to West Ham’s interest in the Dutchman, there was a lot of interest in him during the transfer window.

As of right now, 90min has revealed that a number of English and European teams are interested in signing the defender, including Manchester City.

The team of manager Pep Guardiola is in need of a natural left-sided defender.

Compared to Nathan Ake, the Spaniard would have a more logical choice for the left-back position.

Maatsen has played four times for the Blues this season, passing Marc Cucurella in Mauricio Pochettino’s pecking order.

According to the report, Chelsea is still optimistic about signing Maatsen to a new contract.

Should they fall short, he might be offered for a bargain price in January as the Blues might prefer to make a profit than lose him for free next summer.
