Tottenham Hotspur striker Richarlison was visibly distraught after failing to convert a clear goal-scoring opportunity during Brazil’s match against Bolivia on Friday night.
In the World Cup qualifier, the Selecao secured a resounding 5-1 victory, with Neymar and Rodrygo both netting twice, and Raphinha adding to the scoresheet.
However, one player who couldn’t find the back of the net was Richarlison, as his recent struggles in front of goal persisted.
Richarlison had an ideal chance to break his goal drought for Brazil at Mangueirao Stadium when the South American powerhouse was leading 2-0.
However, his execution left much to be desired. Despite displaying impressive skill by swivelling past an approaching defender, his finish was wayward as he sent the ball soaring over the crossbar.
Not long after, the 26-year-old was hooked and replaced by Wolves striker Mateus Cunha.
And when the camera panned to him on the bench later on when Brazil were leading 4-1, his eyes were red and tears flowed down his face.
Time will tell whether Richarlison starts in Brazil’s next match, which comes against Peru on Tuesday evening.
Gabriel Jesus and Cunha are among the players that could be handed a starting berth should Richarlison be dropped.
