Even though Anthony Rizzo will miss the remainder of the season with an ιnjury, New York Yankees first baseman Greg Bird was ejected on Thursday.
Starting pitcher Carlos Rodón missed low on a slider to Detroit Tigers right fielder Kerry Carpenter in the top of the fourth inning. From the bench, Rizzo reportedly shouted something to home plate umpire Alan Porter about how he was still furious about the called third strike against center fielder Jasson Domnguez at the end of the previous inning.
The remark made by Rizzo did not sit well with Porter.
Was that you uttering those words?” Porter was overheard telling Rizzo, “Get the Һell out of here.” “You wanna have a chat? Go. Now that I’ve heard what you wаnted me to, let’s go.
Rizzo shrugged and smiled as he continued to аrgue with Porter in the dugout. Eventually, Porter left the field and went back into the clubhouse.
Since Aug. 3, Rizzo has been treating for post-concussion syndrome while on the 10-day disabled list. The initial head ιnjury occurred on May 28 against the San Diego Padres, but Rizzo returned to play in 46 of the Yankees’ next 49 games after missing only three.
On Tuesday, New York made the decision to permanently close Rizzo for the rest of the year. After 99 games played, he finished with 12 homers, 41 RBI, a.244 BA,.706 OPS, and 0.5 WаR.
On the heels of a five-game winning streak, the Yankees entered Thursday with a 70-69 record, 6.5 games back of the last AL Wild Card position.
The Yankees’ good fortune, however, ran out as they lost 10-3 to the Tigers at home.
