Mont Saint – Michel, a medieval castle on a small island

It can be said that Mont Saint-Michel castle is the magnet that attracts tourists to this island. Bishop Saint Aubert d’Avranches, in one of his sleep, received orders from Saint – Michel three times to build a monastery on the island. Therefore, the bishop decided to build this monastery according to the will and named it Mont Saint – Michel.

Predjamski Castle – Castle attached to a cave

This is the only architectural work associated with the cave. Located in Southwestern Slovenia, about 9km from Postojna Cave, above the Lokva River, Predjamski is built on a 123m high cliff. To date, this special architectural work attracts many tourists because of its uniqueness that is not found in any other architecture. Predjamski, although quite small and modest compared to other buildings, is perhaps the only castle in the world associated with a cave. This is the second largest cave in Slovenia. The name Predjamski Grad means “castle before the cave”.

Fairy tale castle Neuschwanstein

One of three Royal Palaces built under King Louis II of Bavaria, Neuschwanstein Castle is located in the village of Schwangau near Fussen in southern Germany. Construction of the castle began in 1869, but due to the death of King Louis II in 1886, construction had to be suspended. When he was alive King Louis II never wanted to let the common people visit the castle because he thought the common people would lose its legendary character. However, six weeks after his death, the castle was open to visitors. Today, Neuschwanstein Castle belongs to one of the important tourist attractions of Germany and is at the same time an image of the Romantic era. Every year, this place attracts about 1.3 million tourists to visit as well as admire the unique architecture of the castle. And the castle is also used as a model for the “sleeping princess castle” in Walt Disney Park.

Matsumoto Castle

Matsumoto Castle is located between the towering mountains of the Northern Alps and the Utsukushigahara Plateau. Completed between 1593 and 1594, this national treasure has become the oldest “six-story, five-structure” castle in Japan. Matsumoto is one of the three most famous castles in Japan, the castle is located northwest of Tokyo, in the Alps. The castle was built in 1590 and is known as “Crow Castle”, but Matsumoto is often referred to by locals as Matsumotojo. The first and second tower floors were built between 1592 and 1614. Because at that time, peace was not guaranteed, so both floors of the castle were strictly guarded.
