According to numerous sources, the Texas Rangers will activate their top prospect in the outfield, Evan Carter, and place Adolis Garca on the injured list.
The move hasn’t been formally announced by the Rangers. The team plays its first game in a three-game set against the Oakland Athletics on Friday.
After leaping to try to rob a home run in Wednesday’s 12-3 loss to the Houston Astros, Garca damaged his patellar tendon. He collapsed to the ground, and though he eventually got to his feet on his own, he was in excruciating pain. To get to the dugout, he needed assistance.
Garcia has 100 RBI and 34 home runs to lead the Rangers.
With less than two weeks since his promotion to Triple-A Round Rock, Carter is currently ranked as MLB.com’s eighth-best prospect. On his 21st birthday, he made his stage debut. He had a 4-for-6 performance with one run and one RBI in his debut.
With Double-A Frisco and Round Rock this season, the former second-round pick in 2020 has hit.288/.413/.450/.863 with 17 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs, and 67 RBI.
With Double-A Frisco, Carter batted.284/.411/.451/.862 with 62 RBI, 12 home runs, 15 doubles, 6 triples, and 6 triples. He struck out 103 times while walking 74 times. In June, he participated in three games at the Arizona Complex League as part of a recovery assignment for an injury.
He spent the most of the 2022 campaign with the High-A Hickory Crawdads, where he batted.295 and was voted Baseball America’s Minor League Player of the Year for the Rangers. Late in the year, he was promoted to Frisco, where he helped the RoughRiders win the Texas League championship.
