Ten Hag regrets when the former Manchester United striker shines on the national team

The EURO 2024 qualifying match between Netherlands and Greece was played in a one-sided match since the squad in orange showed to be superior to the visitors. The trio of De Roon, Gakpo, and Weghorst competed to score goals early in the first half, assisting the Netherlands in defeating their opponents to earn all three points.

De Roon (17′), Gakpo (31′), and Weghorst (39′) are Dutch players.

The Netherlands did not have the strongest team when they welcomed Greece since a number of players, including Depay and Timber, had to retire due to injuries. Oranje, on the other hand, continued to easily dominate the game because to its greater class and the backing of the home fans.

After 17 minutes of rolling, they broke the deadlock thanks to midfielder De Roon. Starting from a corner kick on the left wing, the ball was brought back from the right wing to the middle and De Roon, in an unaccompanied position, defeated goalkeeper Vlachodimos with a decisive kick.

By the 31st minute, the gap was doubled for the home team. Catching a pass from Dumfries’ right wing, Gakpo controlled the ball neatly before turning around to volley the ball into the Greek net.

Right-back Dumfries made a significant contribution to the Netherlands’ joyous triumph despite without directly scoring. A header by Weghorst, a towering striker for Inter Milan, bringing the score to 3-0, was helped by the player playing Serie A football for Inter Milan six minutes before the first half’s end.

The Netherlands aggressively slowed down the tempo of the game after halftime after swiftly establishing a secure lead in the first half. They didn’t exert as much pressure as they had before, but Greece’s attitude of surrender prevented it from finding a respectable equalizer.

Greece suffered a hefty defeat to the Netherlands, which cost them second place in Group B. They share the same six points as the Orange Cyclone, but they fall short in the secondary categories and having played one more game (4 as opposed to 3) than the visiting squad. Despite their convincing victory, the Netherlands currently behind the top-ranked France (9 points) after 5 games.
