On Thursday, Yankees captain Aaron Judge publicly endorsed Aaron Boone.
Judge expressed to SNY’s Andy Martino his desire to have Boone return as manager for the upcoming season.
Before facing the Tigers at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees’ superstar referred to Boone as “the guy” when questioned about the manager’s situation.
When asked why he was continuing to support Boone, Judge said, “He has been there for us in good times and bad.” The guy always shows up to cheer for his team.
To paraphrase, “You can probably tell by the amount of times he’s been thrown out of games that he always has our back.”
As the Yankees have struggled this year, Boone has become a frequent scapegoat for frustrated supporters.
As of Thursday’s game, the Yankees (70-69) are last in the American League East and six and a half games out of the American League’s second and last wild-card place.
General manager Brian Cashman called this season a “disаster” for the Yankees, and owner Hal Steinbrenner promised last month that the organization would conduct an in-depth investigation into what had been going on.
This offseason, Steinbrenner will examine the team’s personnel, including Boone, who took over as manager in 2018.
The words Judge made on Thursday are noteworthy because they suggest he will be included in the team’s offseason discussions and preparations.
The Yankees are in their sixth season under the leadership of their current manager, yet he has yet to lead the team to the World Series.
The Yankees’ best efforts to date have gotten them to the American League Championship Series, where they were swept by the Houston Astros in both 2019 and 2022.
Judge also praised Boone for his work in developing the Yankees’ young players, particularly Jasson Dominguez, who has been brought up in recent weeks.
“I think [he] definitely [is],” Judge affirmed. As a result, “He is a great person for that.”
On the field, it’s Aaron Boone and Aaron Judge.
Boone is the Yankees’ manager for the sixth year in a row.

Great things have happened because of him. Judge praised my “good baseball mind” by saying this. “Outstanding pitcher’s mind. Has a knack for telling baseball tales and calming the nerves of his teammates so that they can focus on the game at hand. The rigors of the game are not lost on him.
According to the group, “He just keeps us loose and keeps us ready to go.”
