Six new players arrived at Old Trafford over the summer, the goalie was switched, and a new captain was selected.
Erik ten Hag gave Bruno Fernandes the United armband, displacing Harry Maguire as the team’s official captain.
Maguire’s leadership style was unstable because the pressure was too much for a player whose career had been in free fall for the previous two years.
With two losses and two victories in the first four games of the new season, Fernandes has guided United through a challenging start.
Bruno, though, proved that he hasn’t lowered his standards as he won the team’s first Player of the Month honor of the year.
The obvious choice to replace Maguire with the armband was the Portuguese star, and United icon Paul Scholes is the newest to support Ten Hag’s pick.
According to The Mirror, Rio Ferdinand said on his YouTube program FIVE that Bruno is doing a good job of managing the club.
“He’s done a tremendous job while serving as captain, and he looks like a leader; he’s the one that never gives up and never stops working to inspire his squad. I believe it’s a terrific decision,” Scholes remarked.
“I believe there are several leaders in the team for the first time right now. You consider their past experience and the management they hired. Real Madrid’s Varane, a World Cup champion. As well as Casemiro,” he adds.
Scholes, meanwhile, is sure that Fernandes is the best candidate for the position.
Because Bruno appears to be the one everyone looks up to, Scholes continued, “Suddenly there are three or four players on that team who are capable of being captain. I think Bruno is probably the right choice.”
After the international break, when the Premier League resumes, Fernandes will start for United against Brighton at Old Trafford.
