Alejandro Garnacho deserves a starting role over Antony

In the recent Premier League clash between Manchester United and Arsenal in the 2023/24 season’s fourth round, Alejandro Garnacho made a notable impact after coming on as a substitute. He found the back of the net in the 89th minute, seemingly pulling one back for MU to make it 2-1. Unfortunately, the goal was later disallowed due to an offside call, leaving MU in despair as Arsenal went on to score two stoppage-time goals, sealing a 3-1 victory.

Despite the disallowed goal, Arsenal legend Ian Wright acknowledged Garnacho’s contribution to MU’s performance. Wright commented, “I believe Garnacho was a shining light in MU’s defeat against Arsenal.”

“After his introduction, MU’s counterattacks were highly effective. The blistering pace of Rashford combined with Garnacho’s speed created problems for Arsenal’s defense. I genuinely fail to comprehend why Garnacho is sitting on the bench behind Antony. Judging by their performances since the start of the season, I firmly believe that Garnacho deserves a starting spot.”

Garnacho stands as one of Manchester United’s most promising young talents, thriving under the guidance of their manager, Ten Hag. In contrast, Antony, despite his hefty price tag of 100 million euros, has struggled to demonstrate his capabilities.

After the first four rounds of the Premier League this season, Manchester United has secured two victories but also suffered two defeats. Even with significant investments in team upgrades, clinching the championship title seems increasingly challenging. Perhaps the realistic goal for Ten Hag’s squad is to secure a position in the Top 4, similar to their performance in the previous season.
