According to the Spanish press, midfielder Enzo Fernandez is “seriously considering” leaving Chelsea just 6 months after moving to the Stamford Bridge team.
Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica for a club record fee at the time of £106.5 million. He played hard as the boss in the midfield, but the Blues’ performance did not improve much. And it looks like Fernandez could be ready to pack his bags if Chelsea’s poor form continues. The World Cup champion is said to be “seriously considering” leaving the West London team.
According to Spain’s Fichajes newspaper, Fernandez’s decision is “partially due to the level of football below expectations” at Chelsea and the midfielder could leave if “the team does not improve” under Pochettino.
Chelsea have experienced an extremely disappointing 2022/23 season when they are only 12th in the Premier League table and empty-handed in all competitions. After 3 matches of the new season, the Blues are also in a bad situation when they only won 1, drew 1 and lost 2 of the first 4 matches of the season in the Premier League 2023/24.
This left former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson wondering “how long” Fernandez would have to endure his poor performance before leaving. Merson told Sky Sports: “Chelsea brought in a bunch of players and you think: ‘How do you get a team like this?’ Chelsea aims to win titles but it will be very difficult.”
“They bought too many of the same players. Enzo Fernandez is on a different level – superior to the rest. But how long will he last?”
