Recent reports have cast doubt on whether Reece James will return from his injury as originally anticipated by Chelsea.
The Evening Standard has raised questions about James’ recovery timeline. While Chelsea had hoped for his prompt return, there is now uncertainty surrounding his comeback.
In James’ absence, Malo Gusto has admirably filled his role in the three league games since. Gusto’s performances, especially in attack, have been noteworthy, including his two assists against Luton in the club’s only win this season.
This season, there were initial fears that James might encounter recurring muscle injuries, as reports indicated that he suffered another muscle injury at the start of the campaign. Hopes were high that these problems would be behind him as he took on the role of club captain for the season.
However, captaincy responsibilities have since been transferred to vice-captain Ben Chilwell, with both players enjoying popularity under new manager Mauricio Pochettino. Pochettino has even described James as a “perfect” player since taking charge of the club.
