Kyle Walker is hungry to win more titles with Man City after almost joining Bayern Munich this summer.
Kyle Walker is having an impressive start to the season with Man City.
Kyle Walker has been very close to Bayern Munich this summer. If he had been more decisive, the English player could have stood side by side with compatriot Harry Kane at the Allianz Arena.
Until now, everything has not changed – Walker is still a Manchester City player. But for the 32-year-old defender himself, many changes have occurred. Instead of looking to leave, he was very close to extending his contract.
After a season of not being used, Walker gradually regained his position at Etihad. The 32-year-old defender started all four of Man City’s opening Premier League matches this season.
Last season, Walker was elected as a member of Man City’s staff, along with captain Ilkay Gundogan, who is now gone, vice-captain Kevin de Bruyne who is currently injured, Rodri and Ruben Dias.
Walker has tried everything to keep this responsibility: “It’s an honor and a privilege, of course I want it. I’m enjoying the opportunity.”
Kyle Walker is very close to renewing his contract with Man City.
Along with De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, John Stones, and Ederson, Walker is the only Man City player left after the 2017-2018 Premier League season reached 100 points. During that campaign, The Citizens won 19 of their first 20 matches.
Currently with 4 wins, Walker and his teammates are trying to repeat the same achievement. “I said that to my teammates at the beginning of the season. Why can’t we repeat the start like we did in 2017-2018, instead of playing catch or waiting for others to drop points?”.
That statement showed Walker’s intense ambition with Man City. “The coach puts new faces at the right time, in the right position, and that helps maintain the hunger of everyone in the team. Josko Gvardiol has just arrived and he hasn’t won the Premier League yet. I want him to get that”.
Gvardiol is part of the change, Walker is one of the constants. The 32-year-old needs to answer two questions before making a final decision: the length of his contract and his position in Pep Guardiola’s plans.
Walker is currently in the final year of his contract and if renewed, he will stay at Man City until 2026. At that time, the English defender will be 36 years old and can finish his career at the Etihad.
That scenario is entirely possible as Walker shows no signs of slowing down. 6 years have passed, and he has won 5 Premier League titles, and 2 FA Cups and culminating with his first taste of glory in the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola is putting all his trust in Walker.
Walker’s long-term commitment was evident in the match against Sheffield United. He kicked advertising signs in frustration after making a mistake that caused Man City to concede a goal.
If Man City’s upcoming captaincy vote takes place publicly and democratically, Walker can be completely trusted.
Previously, Walker played alongside exemplary captains such as Vincent Kompany, Ledley King, Steven Gerrard, and John Terry. And he more or less learned valuable qualities.
If true, this is a worthy reward for Walker’s perseverance and love for the green half of Manchester.
