Greenwood “gets spotlight” in Getafe: Goals scored, and fans admired

Mason Greenwood attracts attention during his first training session with the new team Getafe. Mason Greenwood became the focus of Getafe club’s training session on September 5. This is also the first training session that the 21-year-old striker has attended since joining the La Liga team on a 1-year loan contract from MU.

Through the video posted by Getafe on social networks, it can be seen that Greenwood still maintains the serenity in the dribbling and finishing phases. Not only that, the 21-year-old striker receives support from fans every time he scores a goal. After practice, he also happily interacted and took photos with fans.

Getafe recruited Greenwood at the end of the summer transfer window of 2023. Notably, the La Liga representative did not take the fee to borrow the 21-year-old striker, even most of Greenwood’s £ 75,000/week treatment will be paid by MU. At Alfonso Pérez Stadium, Greenwood wears the number 12 shirt and can make his debut for Getafe in the match against Osasuna in the fourth round of La Liga (September 17).

As revealed by The Athletic, the contract between the two sides also includes a clause that Getafe can terminate the loan contract and return Greenwood to MU in January 2024 if the English striker does not meet professional requirements.

The Madrid team has a reason to be cautious because Greenwood has not played since January 2022, when the 21-year-old striker was caught in a scandal of assaulting his girlfriend and was suspended by MU from all training and competition activities. On August 21, MU confirmed parting ways with Greenwood after an internal investigation with the 21-year-old striker. Although Greenwood’s allegations were denied, the Old Trafford team could not keep him because of public pressure.

Before Getafe, MU was rejected by a series of clubs to accept Greenwood such as Brentford, Dortmund, AS Roma, AC Milan and some teams in Saudi Arabia. In fact, Getafe also faced criticism for its decision to sign with Greenwood, especially from feminist organizations. However, head coach Jose Bordales still defended the club’s decision: “We all know how it ended, and Greenwood was not convicted. He is a qualified player and joined Getafe with great enthusiasm.”
