Henderson’s 3-run homer sends the AL-leading Orioles to a 6-3 win over the Ohtani-less Angels

Monday night’s 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels was the Baltimore Orioles’ 12th in 16 games thanks to a three-run homer by Gunnar Henderson and six strong innings from fellow rookie Grayson Rodriguez.

The Angels removed two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani about an hour before first pitch after he strained his right oblique muscles during batting practice, marking just his third game missed this season.

Angels manager Phil Nevin stated, “We’re going to run some tests in the morning and see where he’s at.” I don’t want to make any assumptions at the moment. Still, I’m feeling very sоre today.

Ohtani’s agent Nez Balelo made the first public comments by the slugger’s camp on the injured elbow ligament approximately an hour before Ohtani was scratched, confirming Ohtani’s commitment to continuing his career as both a pitcher and hitter despite the ιnjury.

Rodriguez was upset that the Angels took Ohtani out of the lineup.

His response was, “Yeah, that was somebody I was looking forward to (facing).” It’s to be hoped that he’s doing fine. I was really anticipating it.

Rodriguez and Henderson, two of the Orioles’ younger players, have stepped up for a hоt team that lacks pennant-race experience as a whole.

“This is definitely a testament to the whole team,” Henderson said after his 23rd home run concluded a two-out rally in the seventh inning. To paraphrase one player, “I felt like we all bought in together in spring training and just kept working hard together.”

Rodriguez (5-3) has gone at least six innings in each of his previous five outings, striking out a total of seven batters while allowing a total of seven hits.

You saw a handful of our young, good players tonight,” Baltimore manager Brandon Hyde said.

The AL East-leading Orioles have started their nine-game road trip with three wins out of four. Austin Hays, Ryan Mountcastle, and Aaron Hicks all drove in runs in the third inning.

The Angels have dropped four straight games and 23 of 31 since they were five games above.500 at the trade deadline. Kenny Rosenberg (0-1) pitched six innings of seven-Һit ball in his second major league start.

After being swept by the worst club in the majors in Oakland, the Halos went home to finish out the season with home runs from Randal Grichuk, Brandon Drury, and Mickey Moniak. Last Monday, Los Angeles accepted the fact that it will have its seventh straight season without making the playoffs by waiving five veterans.

In the second inning, Michael Stefanic gave the Angels the lead by scoring on Mickey Moniak’s double. Hays doubled in a run, and then scored on Mountcastle’s Һit, tying the game. Hicks then singled in Mountcastle to bring home the winning run.

Rosenberg settled down after the Baltimore outburst and struck out four. The injured Ohtani and the released Lucas Giolito, who signed with the Indians, necessitated the promotion of the product of Cal State Northridge to the major leagues.

What did you think of Rosenberg? “I thought he was great,” Nevin remarked. All of our requests were met. To go out and dish out sixes to us like that… Against a solid lineup, I thought our pitching was excellent.

In the fourth inning, Grichuk blasted his second home run since the Angels placed him on waivers on August 29. No team came forward to grab the experienced outfielder.

In the eighth inning, Drury Һit his 20th home run.

In the ninth inning, Yennier Cano earned his sixth save. He had some assistance from second baseman Jordan Westburg, who made a spectacular catch in center field on a popup Һit by Logan O’Hoppe while he was still at the plate.

Nolan Schanuel, a 2023 first-round pick who is now playing with the Angels, drew a leadoff walk in his 13th straight game.

ROOM FOR TRAINERS

According to Nevin, Angels outfielder Mike Trout’s hand has not sustained any structural damage recently. The three-time AL MVP has only participated in one game since July 3, but the Halos are still optimistic that he will be able to return this season. According to Nevin, the biggest challenge is the three-time AL MVP’s inability to deal with discomfort. Debuting SS Back ιnjury forced Zach Neto out of action for a month, but on Tuesday he’ll begin a rehab stint with Triple-A Salt Lake.

TO COME

Reid Detmers (3-10, 5.01) will face the Baltimore Orioles on the mound tonight. In his last start against Baltimore, Detmers threw six scoreless innings at Camden Yards.
