It’s fair to say that Manchester United have had one of the worst starts to the Premier League season that they could have imagined after losing to both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, suffering injuries to Raphael Varane and Mason Mount, and witnessing an extremely public argument between Erik ten Hag and Jadon Sancho.
Given that they had a fantastic summer of signings at Old Trafford, their slow start to the season has also surprised a lot of people. The Red Devils have been among the league’s least impressive teams because of how unpredictable England’s premier division is.
To top it all off, rumours claim that Manchester United’s owners, the Glazer family, have made a significant decision about the club’s sale, which has particularly confused Gary Neville.
What are the Glazers now doing? The Glazers, who put Manchester United up for sale in November, have reportedly chosen to remove it from the market after failing to receive their desired £10 billion asking price.
The club will reportedly be put back up for sale by the current owners in 2025, when they anticipate more bidder interest due to economic and environmental considerations.
Gary Neville responded to the news by telling Sky Sports that this is just the owners’ newest plan to entice additional offers: “I just find it hard to think the report is accurate.
It’s a part of their long-standing practice of twisting stories and playing games. Since they lack funds, I don’t see how they can maintain control of the club.
“Anyone with even a passing familiarity with the club’s financial status will recognize its direness. They continue to blame FFP, claiming that they are unable to sign players, and other such things.
They have invested and spent money this summer, but they still need to bring in cash. To do this, they will either sell, dilution, or take on additional debt, which is impossible given the amount of debt the company already has. The most likely course, in my opinion, is for them to sell.
“They are attempting to increase the price, which is a common bargaining strategy. Because they don’t panic, they maintain their composure and do not move quickly. They are savvy businesspeople who understand that by delaying this decision, they may be able to make an extra dollar or two.
“They need money for the club desperately, so I can’t believe the story is true.”
How much money was spent this summer by Manchester United?
According to Transfemarkt, United brought in seven new players during the summer transfer window while the Glazers remained in charge, spending a total of €207 million (£177 million).
After spending more money, Ten Hag may start to feel more pressure to lead his United team to victory. After the international break, the Red Devils must resume producing results in order for the Dutchman to at least try to address any glaring issues in his system.
