According to ESPN, starting pitcher Julio Uras of the Los Angeles Dodgers was detained on felony domestic violence accusations on Sunday. The report also states that Urias was arrested late on Sunday night and freed on a $50,000 bond on Monday.
The Dodgers released a statement on Monday in which they claimed, “We are aware of an incident involving Julio Uras. He won’t be going with the team while we try to get all the information. At this time, the group has nothing else to say.
Under Major League Baseball’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy in 2019, Uras received a 20-game suspension. Witnesses claimed the pitcher shoved his girlfriend to the ground in a Los Angeles shopping center parking lot, leading to the judgment, which Urias did not appeal.
The Major League Baseball Players Association issued a statement from Uras at the time that included the following quote: “Even in this incident where there was no injury or history of violence, I understand and agree that Major League players should be held to a higher standard. I have higher expectations of myself. I’ve made initiative to develop myself both on and off the field and in my relationships.
The 27-year-old Uras has played a significant role in the Dodger rotation over portions of eight seasons. He has made 21 starts this season and is 11-8 with a 4.60 ERA (94 ERA+).
