Chanel, a Parisian fashion business, debuted its new Interstellar Capsule watch collection at this year’s Watches and Wonders exhibition, which was inspired by “science fiction, space travel, and time travel.” The Lion Astroclock, a commanding desk clock, is the one that attracted our eye among the line-up of unique watches. Given that Swiss clockmaker L’Epee developed both of the astronomical desk clocks, the latest horological invention may make you think of the Chronosphere Clock that the company debuted in 2018. The Lion Astroclock showcases Chanel’s signature flair in a monochrome design with a matte black finish on the majority of its surfaces.
The clock, which stands about 35 cm tall, is made up of a glass sphere that houses the mechanism and a rectangular base that serves as the structure’s support. The sculpture of a lion, which alludes to Coco Chanel’s zodiac sign Leo, is housed inside the glass base.
A diamond-set star on a globe that serves as the hour scale acts as the hour indicator on the clock’s planetarium-style time display, which shows the time in hours. A hand like a constellation with diamond stars marks the minutes on a matte black polished disc.
Under the lovely three-dimensional time display is the watch’s movement, which L’Epee created. The Chanel Lion Astroclock will only be produced in five pieces, each of which costs $350,000.
