Reece James has expressed his reaction to the news of academy graduate Callum Hudson-Odoi’s departure from Chelsea on social media.
On Hudson-Odoi’s Instagram post announcing his move to Premier League side Nottingham Forest, James left a single sad emoji. Hudson-Odoi, one of the club’s longest-serving players, has been the subject of transfer rumors throughout the summer, and his departure was finally confirmed.

Last season, there was an attempt to send him on loan to the Bundesliga in the hope that he would regain the form that initially earned him a place in the first team. However, his loan at Bayer Leverkusen ended prematurely.

With Mauricio Pochettino taking charge, it appeared increasingly challenging for Hudson-Odoi to secure a return to Chelsea’s first team. He was not part of the squad that traveled to the United States for the pre-season tour. While several Premier League clubs were linked with the player, it was Nottingham Forest that secured his services for a relatively low fee.

Reece James, who has known Hudson-Odoi for many years as they both progressed through the academy, made it evident on his former teammate’s Instagram story that he was saddened by his departure.

Hudson-Odoi may not have to wait long to return to Stamford Bridge, as Chelsea is scheduled to face Nottingham Forest in the league today. Chelsea is aiming for back-to-back home wins in the Premier League, and the match could provide an opportunity for Cole Palmer to make his debut for the club.
