Chelsea’s blockbuster contract has shown that the London club currently owns a player with enough quality to ‘surpass’ even Mbappe.
One of the reasons why Chelsea are constantly shopping in the summer transfer window this year is the unfortunate injury that happened to the pillars. Among them is their most expensive centre-back Wesley Fofana, who ruptured a cruciate ligament in July and had to miss the rest of the season.
Despite not being able to play for Chelsea this season, Fofana is still confident that the Blues will succeed because the club has a squad with quality individuals. Notably, the French midfielder also confirmed that one of his associates at Stamford had superior qualities to his compatriot Mbappe.
That’s Mykhailo Mudryk. In the words of defender Zinchenko, a compatriot of the 100 million Euro blockbuster, Fofana assessed that Mudryk has a slightly better speed than superstar Mbappe.”Wesley Fofana has played with both of them, Mudryk at Chelsea and Mbappe with the France national team. He is 100% confident that Mudryk is faster than Mbappe.” Zinchenko shared on Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel.
Fofana’s assessment is completely valid when, according to UEFA data, Mudryk is the player with the second fastest sprint speed in the Champions League last season. Meanwhile, the machine that runs Mbappe is not in the top 10. However, speed is also the only quality that Fofana confidently asserts that Mudryk can surpass the captain of the French team.
Mudryk joined Chelsea from January 2023 for a huge fee of 100 million Euros. But until now he is still struggling to adapt to his new life in the Premier League. Over 19 appearances in all competitions for the Blues, the 22-year-old has only contributed 2 assists and has not yet scored a goal.
Under new coach Mauricio Pochettino, Mudryk was used as a super-sub in two-thirds of the team’s matches in the Premier League before suffering an injury. With Chelsea having just signed Cole Palmer from Man City, Mudryk will have to try a lot in the future to compete and prove himself at Stamford Bridge.
