Nathan Eovaldi is preparing to return strongly

Before the Texas Rangers’ final game against the New York Mets on Wednesday at Citi Field, pitcher Nathan Eovaldi threw a brief bullpen session.

The decision? On Friday, when the Rangers play the Minnesota Twins at Globe Life Field, he is prepared for another bullpen.

Eovaldi experienced a minor setback following his prior bullpen stint in Minneapolis last weekend because he experienced left-side discomfort. Because of that, the Rangers decided against allowing him to rejoin the rotation for the Mets series.

Now, according to Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, Eovaldi will participate in a longer bullpen session.

Bochy told reporters in New York, “We’ll wait and see how everything goes, and we expect it to go great. “We’ll make a decision,” someone said. “We expect him to come out of it fine.”

In an effort to be as prepared as possible for a future return to the rotation, Eovaldi has thrown at least seven bullpens and participated in batting practice since being placed on the disabled list on July 30.

Since the All-Star break, Eovaldi has only made one start, pitching six scoreless innings in a victory over Tampa Bay at Globe Life Field on July 18. This season, Eovaldi has a 2.69 ERA and an 11-3 record.
