On September 1, when rosters increase from 26 to 28, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com claims that the New York Yankees will call up outfield prоspect Jasson Domnguez.
Twenty-year-old Dominguez, a switch-Һitter, has recently been promoted to Triple-A. He had three extra-base Һits, a.444 batting average, a.533 on-base percentage, and a.593 slugging percentage in eight games entering Wednesday. (In his first game at Triple-A, he went 3-for-4.) When he reached Double-A, he Һit.254/.367/.414 with 15 home runs and 37 steals. Dominguez will become the youngest Yankee to make his debut since Melky Cabrera in 2005.
Since signing with the Yankees for almost $5 million in 2019, Domnguez has naturally been on the national radar. His “Martian” moniker originates from the tremendous athleticism he showed even as a kid. Despite the fact that some of the early comparisons made to him have shown to be exaggerated, he still seems to be on track for a real big-league career, and maybe even sooner than expected.
Meanwhile, the Yankees’ terrible season is winding down. On Wednesday, they’ll be more than four games out of fourth place in the AL East, behind the Boston Red Sox. Since 1990, when they finished deаd last in their division, the Yankees have never finished higher. As was to be expected, the Yankees have begun to give younger players like Oswald Peraza and Everson Pereira opportunities to prove themselves.
There will be further youth activism after Domnguez. According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, Austin Wells will also be called up to the majors on Friday. CBS Sports has recently provided more in-depth coverage of Wells’ performance elsewhere.
