Marcell Ozuna’s powerful performance, backed by a strong offensive display, propelled the surging Braves to their eighth consecutive win against the Rockies since 2022. With 11 victories in their last 14 games, Atlanta continues to shine brightly.
In this matchup, Michael Harris II stood out with three hits, while Ronald Acuna, Austin Riley, and Ozzie Albies each contributed two hits to the Braves’ offensive prowess. Charlie Morton (14-10) commanded the mound effectively, allowing only one run on three hits while striking out eight batters over six innings. Raul Iglesias stepped in to secure the final three outs, earning his 26th save for Atlanta.
Displaying their offensive prowess, the Braves recorded an impressive 15 hits during the game and have amassed a total of 33 hits in the first two games of the series. The series concludes on Wednesday. Notably, Rockies’ Hunter Goodman continued his strong performance, hitting a triple and maintaining his hitting streak across all three games since making his major league debut on Sunday.
The Braves quickly gained momentum in the second inning. Marcell Ozuna kicked off the scoring with a home run, marking his 30th of the season. Eddie Rosario followed suit with a triple to center field. A single to right by Sean Murphy extended the lead to 2-0, and Harris’ subsequent single added to the offensive showcase.
Although the Rockies managed to score a run in the bottom of the second inning, cutting into the Braves’ lead, it was not enough to halt Atlanta’s surge. With Charlie Morton’s solid performance on the mound and a well-rounded offensive effort, the Braves were able to maintain control.
As the game progressed, the Braves further solidified their lead in the fifth inning. Austin Riley’s double and a wild pitch allowed him to score, and Ozuna’s single added another run to the tally. Peter Lambert (3-5), the Rockies’ starter, put up a valiant effort but was unable to contain the Braves’ offensive onslaught. He allowed three runs on nine hits during his five-inning outing.
Despite Atlanta’s attempts to extend their lead in the sixth inning, Colorado’s Brenton Doyle thwarted their efforts by throwing out Orlando Arcia at home plate. This prevented Albies from scoring after his single, showcasing the Rockies’ determination to limit the Braves’ offensive output.
