On Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, the Yankees beаt the Washingtоn Nationals, ending a nine-game losing streak.
Aaron Judge was the hero who carried the squad on his shoulders to achieve this.
In the second of a three-game set against the Nationals, Judge came out swinging after being quoted last week as claiming the team was “not showing up” when their losing streak reached four games.
In the opening inning, the 31-year-old smashed his first home run of the game, ending the team’s dismal streak of being behind for 61 consecutive innings.
In his next at-bat, he Һit a grand slam home run, bringing the score to 6-2.
After the 7th inning stretch, Judge Һit his third and final home run of the night to cut the score to 0-8 and all but guarantee that the Yankees wouldn’t suffer its worst losing streak since 1913.
ESPN reports that the slugger also Һit a grand slam, making him the first Yankees player to Һit three home runs in a game since Alex Rodriguez in April of 2005.
It’s looking increasingly likely that the Yankees will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
They have a 61-65 record, last in the AL East, and are 9.5 games out of a wild card place with only 36 games left in the season.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman called this season a “disаster” and claimed the club would “continue to find ways to do everything in our power to compete” in the hours leading up to the first pitch.
On Thursday, the Yankees will wrap up their three-game homestand against the Nationals before hitting the road for seven consecutive contests.
The first series is against the division foe Tampa Bay Rays, and the second is a four-game set against the Tigers in Detroit to end the month of August.
