The Trump family’s three-story penthouse, located on Fifth Avenue in New York City, is a $100-million masterpiece decorated with 24-karat gold and marble features in the style of Louis XIV. The luxurious living space includes a dedicated elevator to take Trump to his office on the 26th floor of Trump Tower.
The penthouse is decked out with large chandeliers and plush furnishings, while gold trimmings line the space—from the ceilings and moldings to trays and glasses.
However, the cost of living in such opulence comes with a high price for New York City taxpayers. It costs the city over $1 million each day to protect the area around the building, adding to the already high expenses of maintaining the lavish penthouse.
The property’s prime location offers a stunning view of New York City’s Central Park, and art and portraits of the Trump family line the walls of the penthouse. The late Angelo Donghia designed the space and also designed properties for other famous names such as Diana Ross, Mary Tyler Moore, and Ralph Lauren.
Trump himself has acknowledged the complexity of creating such a unique living space, stating in a 2014 interview with biographer Michael D’Antonio, “This is a very complex unit; building this unit, if you look at the columns and the carvings, this building, this unit was harder than building the building itself.”
